M20 ready-mix
concrete
M20 is the most commonly specified ready-mix grade in residential construction. IS 456 sets it as the minimum for general RCC work and it covers roughly 90% of houses built in Prakasam district.
M20 mix design parameters
IS 456:2000 durability minimums for the mild exposure class. Project-specific mix designs are signed off by our QC team.
Where M20 fits — and where it doesn't
Specifying the right grade saves money and avoids rework. Below is a quick guide based on IS 456 norms and our delivery experience in Prakasam district.
Use M20 for
- Residential RCC slabs (ground floor through second floor)
- Beams, columns, and footings for low-rise homes
- Retaining walls under light hydrostatic load
- Staircase landings and flights
- Lintels, sunshades, and parapet walls
- Compound wall plinth and pillars
- Septic tank base slab (non-contact face)
Don't use M20 for
- Water-retaining structures in contact with water (use M30+)
- Marine or coastal-belt structural RCC (use M25 / M30)
- Industrial floors with heavy fork-lift or machinery load
- High-rise above G+2 (use M25 for columns and beams)
How we batch M20
M20 is the IS 456 minimum for reinforced concrete under mild exposure with 300 kg/m³ cement content and 0.55 max w/c ratio. Workability is typically 75 – 125 mm slump, which suits both hand-placed and pumped applications. Reaches ~70% of its 28-day strength at 7 days and ~99% at 28 days under standard curing.
Every dispatch from our Mallavarappadu and Gundlapalli plants includes a batch slip with mix proportions and a 28-day cube test report — generated from the same load you receive. M20 is delivered in transit mixers and placed either by direct chute discharge or by line pump for upper-floor slabs, columns, and pours the truck can't reach. For projects above 50,000 m³, we can set up a dedicated batching plant on your site with a project-specific mix design and on-site QC lab.
