Crusher Dust
crushed stone

Crusher dust — the 0 – 6 mm fine fraction that comes off the crusher screens as a by-product. An economical material for backfill, paver-block manufacture, and levelling work where IS 383-graded sand is over-spec.

About Crusher Dust

Un-graded by-product of stone crushing. Particle distribution is biased toward the fine end (0 – 4.75 mm), with up to 15 – 20% silt depending on the source rock. Not certified to IS 383 — sold as a utility / fill material, not as a concrete-spec fine aggregate.

Use cases

Where Crusher Dust fits — and where it doesn't

Specifying the right aggregate size and grade saves cement, simplifies placement, and avoids rework. Below is a quick guide based on IS / MoRT&H norms and what we see ordered from our Chimakurthy crusher across Prakasam district.

Use Crusher Dust for

  • Backfill for trenches, soak pits, and water lines
  • Levelling layer under paver blocks and tile work
  • Paver-block manufacturing (interlocking blocks)
  • Sub-base padding under footings and slabs
  • Garden / landscape base material
  • Footpath and walkway sub-base

Don't use Crusher Dust for

  • Structural concrete fine aggregate (use Robo Sand)
  • Plastering (use river sand or screened Robo Sand)
  • Road base or sub-base (use WMM or GSB)
FAQ

Common questions about Crusher Dust

Can crusher dust replace sand in concrete?
No — for structural concrete, use Robo Sand (manufactured sand) which is graded to IS 383. Crusher dust is unscreened and contains too much silt to give consistent concrete strength.
What is the difference between crusher dust and Robo Sand?
Robo Sand is the screened and graded fine aggregate that meets IS 383 for concrete. Crusher dust is the un-screened 0 – 6 mm fines that come off the screens — cheaper, but only suitable for backfill, paver-block mix, and similar non-structural uses.
